Paints

What I own, shared by every army. Recipes go on each army’s page and should only use paints listed here, or flag anything that has to be bought.
Citadel
Names were cleaned up from a voice message. The ones marked (?) are my best guess, so confirm them against the pots.
- Rhinox Hide (base): dark brown.
- Retributor Armour (base): gold.
- Liberator Gold (layer): bright gold highlight.
- Leadbelcher (base): steel.
- Mephiston Red (base): red.
- Zandri Dust (base): sandy bone.
- Wraithbone (?) (base or spray primer): pale bone. Transcribed as “racebone”.
- Corax White (base): white.
- Corvus Black (?) (base): black. Transcribed as “corvis black”.
- Baharroth Blue (layer): pale sky blue.
- Nuln Oil (shade): black wash.
Army Painter
A large number of Army Painter sets, including Quickshade washes:
- Strong Tone: warm brown wash. The army’s main wash, used instead of Agrax Earthshade.
- Red Tone: red wash for shading the red armour. Used instead of Carroburg Crimson.
- Other tones: several more. Record which ones, for example Dark Tone or Soft Tone.
The rest of the sets aren’t recorded yet. Note the set names or the colours you reach for most.
Vallejo
A small pack of basic colours. Mainly useful for mixing and for colours the Citadel pots don’t cover.
On order (2026-10-15)
- Martian Ironearth (technical): cracked Mars-earth basing texture.
- Evil Sunz Scarlet (layer): bright red highlight.
Move these into the Citadel list above once they arrive.
Still worth getting (suggested 2026-10-15)
- Wild Rider Red (layer): fine edge highlight on robes and plates.
- Typhus Corrosion + Ryza Rust (technical / dry): grime and rust on metal and vehicles.
Optional speed route for infantry: Blood Angels Red (contrast) over Wraithbone spray.
- Matte varnish (e.g. Army Painter Anti-Shine spray or Vallejo Matt Varnish): needed to match Cawl’s matte finish, unless one of the sets already has it.
Gaps worth knowing
Check the Army Painter sets for these before buying anything:
- A brighter red for edge highlights over Mephiston Red: something like Evil Sunz Scarlet or Wild Rider Red.
- A rust or orange for Mars-style bases and weathering.
